Fergal Hegarty has stepped down from the Ballyea senior management after a hugely successful two years with the club.

Fergal was coach to Robbie Hogan during the club’s historic march to the 2016 Clare and Munster club championship titles, and assumed the managerial position when Robbie finished up after the club’s appearance in the 2017 All Ireland final in Croke Park, guiding the club to another county quarter-final appearance this past summer.

Fergal informed the players, rest of management and club chairman Pat Moylan of his decision last week, saying: “Sincere thanks to: Robbie [Hogan] for giving me the opportunity to work with such a talented group; Pat Moylan for his unwavering support; the management teams of 2016 and 2017; and especially the players for your commitment, honesty and above all your friendship which will last the test of time. It has been an incredible journey, one which was made all the more special in being able to share it with my family and for that I will be eternally grateful to everyone associated with Ballyea.”

Club chairman Pat Moylan said, “On behalf of the club I would like to thank Fergal for his professionalism and dedication over the past two years. It was an extraordinary journey and as a club we are sorry to see him go. We thank him for all he has done and wish him success with whatever challenge next comes his way.”
